out of our deep chasms
our box of magic tricks
our secret desires wrapped up in gaudy storylines
and our eyes open.
Same old,
same old,
we barely but glance out the window.
Until we realize...
the trees are a glossy white
ribbons of winter twirled artfully
around their branches.
The ground is a blanket
of powdered sugar, silently declaring
its domain over the rich earthen cake.
We see everything through a film
of thick, glittery white
as the marbles of snow descend softly
through the air.
Overhead, a penny-sized sun breathes its stove breath
onto the dripping icicles.
The first snow quickly melts away
but its memory is here to stay.

"ribbons of winter" - *happy sigh* Love, love, love the imagery throughout this one. It's so true! It puts a sweet savor to the magic of first snowfalls in winter ^_^
